Halloween fun arrived early here at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve as our popular lion pride were treated to carved pumpkins by their keepers as part of their daily enrichment programme. Whilst the adults, Adras and Oudrika showed a mild interest, the trio of cubs wasted no time in pouncing on the pumpkins, eager to get to the tempting treats hidden inside.
Simon Jeffery, Animal Director said: "Enrichment is a vital element in our daily programmes with our animals – it helps keep them in tip top condition and promotes activity, health and stimulates interest. The cubs have never seen pumpkins before so we knew it would be a real thrill for them."
Watch the newly named cubs tackle, play fight and tear into the orange orbs, to get to the hidden meaty morsels, before trotting around their habitat with the tattered pumpkin remains in their mouths.
The 20 week old cubs named Binti, Kulinda and Khari have been delighting visitors, overnight guests and avid #CubCam fans with their boisterous antics over the last few months and now The Aspinall Foundation, the conservation charity which works with Port Lympne and our sister park, Howletts has released an online adoption package, enabling avid cub fans to adopt the trio from £2.50 per month.
