Mayombe is continuing to grow in confidence on the island with Djongo, despite the season of heavy thunderstorms that is underway.

Djongo

Currently Djongo and Mayombe are enjoying the ripe season of avocados that the keepers are offering them daily, resulting in direct vocalisations of joy from both.   Djongo is becoming a little possessive of certain food items and displaying at Mayombe.  However, Mayombe doesn't seem to be holding a grudge and has continued to associate with him, but moves away when he displays.  Food has been distributed more widely to avoid any conflict between the two.

Despite some moments of tension around food, Djongo and Mayombe have been recorded on the camera traps spending considerable time together each day.  Djongo continues to provide Mayombe with moral support and a behavioural model in her adaptation to life in the wild.
