In October 2019 we celebrated the two year anniversary for the four bachelor boys repatriated to Congo from Port Lympe as part of our Back to the Wild programme. They continue to acclimatise to their new life and two of the young silverbacks, Kangu and Kouyou, will soon be ready for release from the habituation island into the main reserve, a move that should take place at some point in 2020.
The process of preparing captive-bred animals for a life in the wild is a lengthy one, and the point at which the pre-release phase ends will vary for different individuals. Kebu and Fubu are not quite ready for the move and will remain on the island for now.
